In Pakistan close consanguineous unions continue to be extremely common as in South West Asia. The recent Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) has shown that two-thirds of marriages in Pakistan are consanguineous. As a result of these marriages, the rare autosomal recessive disorders run in close families and tribes.Thus due to autosomal recessive inheritance the rare congenital coagulation bleeding disorders, congenital platelet functional disorders and type III Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) become common.
